Speaking of getting the best selfies, Diamond Head State Monument is only a 9-minute drive from the Kahala Mall! Diamond Head State Monument is Hawaii’s most recognizable landmark and known for its historic hiking trail, stunning views of the ocean and history. This State Monument encompasses over 475 acres and you’ll want to take your time to enjoy every bit of it. After you begin at the Trailhead, you’ll walk the steep slope as you cross through many switchbacks up the crater. You’ll have some optimal picture opportunities at the various Lookouts along the trail. You’ll even cross steep concrete steps, two tunnels, a lighted spiral staircase and many metal stairs as you stroll around the peak of the crater. At the top of the crater, you’ll have a magnificent view of the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding areas. In the late 1700’s, Western explorers visited and mistook the calcite crystals in the rocks on the slope of the crater for diamonds which is how Diamon Head became the common name for the crater.

After you take your hike up Diamond Head; take a relaxing swim with the dolphins at the Kahala Hotel & Resort.
